Fall Crafts for the Family

November 13, 2017

With the holidays so rapidly approaching us, it's hard to find a way to keep those little ones busy. Luckily, we've rounded up a few activities that can do the trick while also getting your home ready for the holiday season!  So round up your craft scissors, paint brushes, and creative juices and welcome fall with us!

Fall Craft Supplies youll need

Our first craft uses a material you can find laying around anywhere this time of year!  Take your little ones to grab some leaves outside and have them paint their favorites with bright colors.  You can then hang them in your window, press them in a book, or even set them out as table decorations!

All you will need for this craft is:

  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Leaves

Just put a cover on your craft surface and paint!  Simple and so much fun!

Next, we decided to use that yarn that's been sitting in the garage since that summer we decided to try out knitting... Now it will be put to good use by making adorable mini pumpkins! (We promise, it's easier than trying to knit a scarf.)

For this craft, you will need:

  • Orange yarn (or any fun color you'd like!)
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Scissors
  • Twine (optional)

    1. Start by wrapping the yarn around four fingers until it's about two inches wide (or about 130 times)
    2. Then, cut a ten inch piece of yarn and stick it in the middle of your fingers to wrap it around the big yarn loop.
    3. Tie a knot and pull it tight, wrapping it around the back as well.
    4. Now that you have your pumpkin shape, cut a piece of pipe cleaner and tie it to the knot that you just made on step #3
    5. Twist up the pipe cleaner so that it looks like a stem!
    6. If you'd like to make your pumpkins into a fun garland string, attach the pipe cleaner to your twine and you'll have a perfect fireplace decoration!

For our final craft, we looked to Brit.co for their adorable candy corn mason jars! Rather than using paint to decorate their jars, they use balloons - choose your colors and get creative!

      You'll need:

      • Mason Jars
      • Balloons (to make a candy-corn jar, you will use white, yellow, and orange balloons.)
      • Scissors
      1. Cut off the stem of all of the balloons. For two of the colors, also cut off the rounded end. (If you are making a candy corn, this will be the yellow and white balloons.)
      2. Pull the balloons over your mason jar so that the two balloons with both sides cut are on the top and middle sections.  Put the remaining balloon around the bottom. (If you are making a candy corn, the white will be on top, yellow in the middle, and orange on the bottom)
      3. Voila!  You have an adorable mason jar without any mess!
