DIY Advent Calendars

Today is December 1st so you know what that means -- time to get those advent calendars out!  Growing up, I didn't have advent calendars but I knew that when I had my own family, I would make them part of our holiday tradition.

There are so many different options for advent calendars.  If you don't have one yet, you can definitely purchase one or if you are in the mood to get creative, you can make your own.  There are tons of great ideas on Pinterest.

I like the idea of making my own, but it has to be simple.   Here are a few of my favorites:

Twenty-Five Acts of Random Kindness | Between you and Me

Once you have your calendar, it's time to decide what to put in it!  Our family tradition is to fill the calendar with holiday activities and a couple of trinkets or treats thrown in.  My goal is to keep these calendars modest and simple, yet build the anticipation for Christmas for the girls.  Thanks to Between you and me, this year we are going to add a few random acts of kindness into the mix of activities and trinkets with the hope that we reinforce the spirit of Christmas with our girls!

Does your family have advent calendars?  What do you put inside yours?
