Holiday Homemade Face Balm

Finished Balm Preview

There's always something special about homemade gifts.  Each year, the girls like to make something to give to family members during the holiday season  This year, they decided to make skin balm and it couldn't be easier.  This particular recipe is my favorite because it does wonders to soothe the skin during the cold winter months ...

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup almond oil
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons beeswax
  • 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter
  • Essential oils (optional) - for this recipe, we used Frankincense & Lavender

Ingredients

Each of these ingredients have amazing moisturizing benefits on its own but together, they really complement each other to help soothe and improve complexion and skin tone.

  • Almond oil:  An emollient that soothes the skin and reduces dark circles
  • Coconut oil:  A moisturizer full of antioxidants and nutrients
  • Beeswax:  Protective barrier to protect skin from environmental elements while locking in moisture
  • Vitamin E:  Natural moisturizer and anti-inflammatory.  Also helps to preserve shelf life
  • Shea Butter:  Naturally rich in vitamins and healthy fats to nourish and moisturize skin
  • Frankincense:  An essential oil that is a powerful astringent, helps to protect the skin.  It helps to naturally lift and tighten skin to naturally slow signs of aging.
  • Lavender: An essential oil used to treat a variety of skin concerns such as acne, wrinkles, psoriasis and other inflammatory conditions.

Directions

Place all the ingredients in a glass jar.  Bring a pot filled with about 3 - 5 inches of water to a simmer.  Put the jar in pot and let it sit there until all the ingredients have melted, stirring occasionally.  Once the mixture is melted and evenly combined, pour it into the container that you ultimately will store it in.  Let it completely cool / harden before closing the jar's lid.

Having the girls make homemade gifts is a fun way for them to put their creativity to work and get into the spirit of the holidays.  It all depends on the year, some years the project will take a bit more planning - such as the year they decided to make knitted washcloths for everyone.  They wanted to make a set of 3 but I think they didn't account for the time it would take so everyone ended up with a rather small washcloth ... but it's the thought that counts right : )   This year's project is a lot easier and something I think all receivers would appreciate.

How much does the recipe make? I’m trying to order the ingredients and am needing to make enough for 40 2oz jars.

Thank you!
