Materials selection

What materials are BOT sippy cup made of? (also valid for BOT 2.0)

The handle, lid, and base are made of polypropylene while the straw is made from food-grade silicone. The weight at the end of the silicone straw is stainless steel encased in polypropylene.

What materials are Chubby Gummy made of? (also valid for Bunny)

The body of the Chubby Gummy is made of polypropylene and the tip is made from thermoplastic rubber.

What materials are tokiMATTIES made of? (also valid for MATTIES)

tokiMATTIES are made from 100% non-slip food-grade silicone.

Why do so many of our products have silicone?

Silicone is used in several of our products because it is an inert material that is non-toxic, hygienic, durable and resistant to bacteria. Silicone is made of silicon, which is a natural element found in organic materials like sand, quartz, and rock. Silicon is then transformed into silicone when it is combined with oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen. Because it is a natural material, it is free of toxic chemicals such as Bisphenol-A (BPA), phthalates, nitrosamine, lead and polyvinylchloride (PVC).

Is polypropylene safe?

Absolutely. We use polypropylene because it is entirely BPA free and does not leach any harmful chemicals or toxins. It is also a material that can be recycled easily.

What is Bisphenol-A and why is it harmful?

Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a widely produced chemical primarily used as an ingredient in the polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins that line most food and soft-drink cans and leaches into your food and drink. BPA is a hormone-disrupting chemical believed to cause developmental and neurological problems. You will never find BPA in any of our products.

What are phthalates and why is it harmful?

Phthalates are commonly used as softeners or plasticizers to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC) soft and flexible. They are endocrine disruptors and believed to interfere with normal development of a fetus or child and linked to problems with the reproductive system. We will never use any phthalates in our products.

Why is PVC harmful?

Polyvinyl chloride, also known as vinyl or PVC poses risks to both the environment and human health. PVC needs additives and stabilizers to make it useable. For example, lead is often added for strength, while plasticizers are added for flexibility. Low-level exposures are associated with decreased birth weight, learning and behavioral problems in children, suppressed immune function and disruption of hormones in the body. PVC threatens environmental and consumer health at every stage of its product life cycle, according to the Center for Health, Environment, and Justice (CHEJ). PVC is also the least recyclable plastic. We will never use any PVC in our products.

Does the paint in our products contain lead?

Our paint does not contain any lead or toxins. We spent a considerable amount of time reviewing and auditing multiple paints, and we carefully selected a paint that is safe and resilient for all ZoLi products.

Why use stainless steel instead of aluminum?

Aluminum is really light, but it can unleash noxious substances upon warming, or when in contact with acidic food, so the bottles need to be lined with another material. Those liners (usually plastic resins or epoxy) contain dangerous chemicals such as BPA, and can get scratched. They can also alter the taste of liquids and give them a unpleasant flavor. Our stainless steel is completely safe and free of BPA and phthalates, and does not impact food flavor.

What is stainless steel?

Stainless steel is a special form of steel that is resistant to tarnishing, rust and corrosion.

What materials are STASH made of? (also valid for miniSTASH)

STASH are made of 300-denier polyester with reflective trim and decoration to be visible in low light or even at night. For more security, STASH are closed with a zipper and then with imitation leather magnetic flap.

What materials are NOMNOM made of?

NOMNOM are made of 300 denier polyester on the outside lined with foil on the interior.

Wash & Care

How do I clean & maintain ZoLi feeding products?

We recommend cleaning all parts thoroughly with warm to hot water and a mild detergent prior to first use. For our stainless steel products, we recommend hand washing to keep your bottles and food jars looking like new! All other ZoLi feeding products are top rack dishwasher safe. (Please note, when using a microwave sterilizing unit with BOT sippy cups, please remove the weight on the end of your weighted straw as it contains stainless steel)

How do I clean my ZoLi teethers?

ZoLi care items can be cleaned in a sterilizer or boiled for up to 2 minutes. They are also top rack dishwasher safe.

How do I clean & maintain ZoLi STASH and miniSTASH backpacks? (also applies to NOMNOM lunch tote)

All of our bags may be wiped with damp sponge or towel. They are also dishwasher safe, but please hang dry to maintain your bag's shape. Do NOT machine dry.

How do I clean & maintain ZoLi silicone placemats?

Wash thoroughly with warm water and a mild detergent or in the top rack of your dishwasher. You can also use a baby wipe when on-the-go! Some shadowing may occur on tokiMATTIES if colored areas are left to dry for an extended amount of time. If this happens, repeat washing may be required.

What kind of markers can I use on my tokiMATTIES silicone coloring placemats?

tokiMATTIES come with four non-toxic, washable dry-erase markers (blue, yellow, red, green). If you would like to use more colors, you can replace them with any non-toxic, washable dry-erase markers!

How do you clean the BOT weighted straw sippy cups?

Our weighted straw sippy cups are top rack dishwasher safe; however if you wish to clean the straws separately, there are three simple methods:
1. Fill your BOT cup with warm to hot water. Close the lid and shake the cup. With a closed lid and warm to hot water inside, a natural pressure is created inside the cup. When you release the straw, the water will squirt out of the straw, flushing it clean.
2. Run your straw under the faucet. While it is under the faucet, rub the straw up and down between your fingers, removing whatever "muck" might be there.
3. Use our ZoLi STRAW CLEANING BRUSH. Insert brush through the weighted ball end to clean those hard-to-reach areas.
4. Follow this link to see how you can disassemble your BOT to get a thorough clean.
5. Follow this link to see how to wash and dry your BOT properly.

(Please note, when using a microwave sterilizing unit with BOT sippy cups, please remove the weight on the end of your weighted straw as it contains stainless steel)

Tips and tricks to prevent mold from forming in your weighted straw sippy cups:

1. Wash cup immediately after each use
     a. Remove all parts, straw, and o-ring to thoroughly clean
     b. Wash by hand in warm, soapy water or the top rack of your dishwasher
          i. If washing by hand, using a straw brush cleaner is recommended to scrub the inside of the straw
     c. Eliminate all excess water in your cup, lid, and straw
          i. Pinch the straw to remove any excess liquid
     d. Fully dry all parts before re-assembling
          i. Allow lid and parts to air dry even after removing them from dishwasher
ii. We recommend letting all parts dry separately and only assemble again prior to use
2. Use only with recommend liquids - water, and non-pulp juices
     a. Do not place hot liquids, carbonated beverages, formula, thick smoothies, or juices with pulp inside your BOT cup
3. Most effective way to prevent mold from forming in sippy cups is to remove all trace foods and eliminate any and all moisture after cleaning

Can you place hot liquids, carbonated beverages, or juices with pulp inside the BOT cup?

Hot liquids, carbonated beverages, and juices with pulp are NOT recommended. You can place lukewarm beverages inside the cup, but anything warm will create a pressure so be prepared that there might be some liquid that will flow up through the straw.

What is the difference between the original BOT and BOT 2.0?

BOT 2.0 is the next generation of the original BOT straw sippy cup. BOT 2.0 gives you the choice to drink two ways. 1) Use the direct connect straw and sip away (just like the original) 2) Use the straw + disc buffer chamber to enjoy your favorite warm liquids. For more details, please watch this short video.

How often should I replace the BOT (or BOT 2.0) sippy cup straws?

Our straws are made out of silicone and will experience wear and tear. General guidelines for replacing the straw are every two to three months, though this may vary depending on how frequently the cup is used and washed.

Do BOT replacement straws work for both 6 oz, 9 oz, and BOT 2.0 sippy cups?

Our 3-pack replacement straws will fit any of our BOT cups - BOT, BOT XL and BOT 2.0 weighted straw sippy cups.

Why does the BOT weighted straw sippy cup sometimes leak from the straw?

The original BOT is designed without a valve, which allows children to drink easily from the straw. When pressure builds up in the cup, liquid will be pushed up through the straw. This sometimes happens because the lid is over tightened. We suggest that you unscrew the top or pinch your straw to release pressure before using.

Why does the BOT weighted straw sippy cup sometimes leak from the side of the cup? (also applies to BOT 2.0)

Leaks may occur if the lid is not placed correctly on the cup or when the silicone O-ring positioned inside the lid is loose and/or not intact. If you are missing the O-ring, email customerservice[at]zoli-inc.com.

Why isn’t any liquid coming up from my BOT 2.0 when I use the disk option?

If liquid isn’t coming out of your straw, check to see if your disk is securely tightened into the chamber and that your o-ring is securely in place.

Can I put my POW PIP insulated stainless water bottle in the refrigerator? (applies to all ZoLi stainless steel products)

No. You should avoid placing these products in the refrigerator, as it can damage their vacuum seal. Our stainless items will keep all liquids and foods cold for 24 hours without being placed in the fridge or freezer.
