2022 Sunscreen Guide | Physical vs. Chemical SPF

It's that time of year again - The sun is shining and we're getting all of the outdoor time we can while the kids are out of school! That means packing snacks, planning play dates, remembering all of their
on the road essentials and, maybe most importantly, picking out a sunscreen that will keep the whole family protected!
There are many factors to consider when picking out SPF, so we're here to help wade through the options! That's right... no more paralysis by analysis in the skincare aisle of Target (believe us, we've been there too). Just reference our SPF cheat sheet or choose from our favorites for 2022 below!
First, let's talk about some general sunscreen best practices and hacks that we have been loving for summer 2022!
best practices and hacks:
BRUSH IT ON! If you have a squirmy baby that hates sunscreen being rubbed on their face (i.e. - most babies!) we have a hack for you. Grab a designated sunscreen makeup brush and use it to apply SPF on their face (or all over if they love it!)
FREEZE IT. We can all remember a time when we forgot to reapply sunscreen or were caught outside on a hot day unexpectedly! During this time of year, it's a great idea to freeze some aloe vera gel in an ice cube tray in case of emergencies. The cold provides instant relief, while the aloe begins the healing process.

IN A RUSH? If you are in a hurry and grabbing whatever is available at the moment, just remember these top 3 rules: water resistant, broad spectrum, and SPF 50 or higher. If a sunscreen has these three checked, you're off to a great start!
LET'S GET PHYSICAL! While there are many reasons to use chemical SPF (invisible application, lightweight options, etc.) we recommend reaching for physical sunscreen options when possible! Check out our

We find that the best sunscreens to use on the littles are lotions. While the sprays are convenient to spritz on while the kids run by, lotions ensure that you are getting all the spots that you need to.
